STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – The work of Niki Lindroth von Bahr includes last year’s critically acclaimed Netflix special ‘The House’ and the international festival phenom ‘The Burden’ from 2017. Like the rest of her excellent filmography, both pieces are confident, clever, and carefully crafted stop-motion projects featuring talking animals.
Singing pajama-clad fish and tapdancing mice in fast food uniforms highlight the combination of absurd humor and razor-sharp social commentary that has helped build an undeniably impressive resume for the Swedish filmmaker. After spending most of the past year on maternal leave, Niki is now signing with Scandinavian production company Bacon for representation.
“We have been big fans of Niki’s for a long time, and we are thrilled to make her part of the Bacon family. Her craft and talent for storytelling is world class and we can’t wait to build a bridge between her universe and ours”, says Mette Jermiin, CEO & EP at Bacon. “In our opinion, stop-motion should be more regularly considered for campaigns as it (almost) always adds a unique feel and tone to the creative concept. A great example of this is Humane Society International’s ‘Save Ralph’. We are fully aware that the format needs to be thought in at an early stage, and we are looking forward to perfecting these processes with one of the best in the field. Eventually, it will also be interesting to see Niki mix live-action into her work”.
Niki Lindroth von Bahr began her career making props, working with names like David Bowie before going into directing. Besides her films she has also found time to create exhibitions, and now she is looking to expand her repertoire further.
“I have heard so many great things about Bacon throughout the years and since they are often involved in less conventional projects, it seemed like a natural match. I am quite open to trying out new things and formats while still maintaining my own voice, and I feel like this is the right place to do that”, says Niki Lindroth von Bahr.
