adobo Design Awards jury president Lucille Tenazas tells judges: ‘We are all on equal footing’

MAKATI — “Being on the jury means we are all equally qualified to look at work across platforms,” adobo Design Awards (aDA) jury president and American Institute of Graphic Arts Medal award-winner Lucille Tenazas told the 13 leading design professionals in the Philippines who will be judging the entries alongside her for two days starting today.

The aDA jury composed of RAA Design’s Robert Alejandro, Team Manila Co-founder Jowee Alviar, Illustrator Ivan Despi, graphic designer, entrepreneur and restaurateur AJ Dimarucot, JWT Manila Executive Creative Director Dave Ferrer, B+C Design Inc.’s Baby Imperial, Portfolio MNL CEO and Co-founder Rina Malonzo, Plus63 Design Co-Founder Dan Matutina, Flux Design Labs CEO Nico Puertollano, independent design professional Lady San Pedro, Vgrafiks Design + Branding’s Russel Vergara, Ace Saatchi & Saatchi Head of Design Denise Tee will be looking at hundreds of entries submitted by different enthusiasts, practitioners, freelancers and students of design and advertising.

Lucille said that sitting together with younger design professionals is crucial for her, “It makes me feel I am relevant here. Thank you.”

The categories are as follows: Press and Poster, Corporate Brand and Identity, Typography, Illustration, Books/Publishing, Packaging, Outdoor / Ambient, Environmental / Spatial, Product Design, Wearable Design, Production Design, Photography, Video, Digital / Interactive.

Before the jury members head out of the judging room to start looking at the flat entries, adobo Magazine founder and editor-in-chief reminded them: “We want this to be a good show. Make the best stand out.”

Since the adobo Design Awards was originally launched in 2010, it has honored the brightest and best talents in contemporary creativity. This year, aDA is set to highlight state-of-the-art in print, publishing and advertising with the overall theme of ‘Design for the Future’.

The aDA shortlist will be announced tomorrow, March 18. The awarding will be on March 27, at Green Sun, Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City.
