MANILA – Launched back in 2007, the adobo Design Awards (aDA) was created to champion outstanding work in advertising and design.
Now nearing a decade, the aDA is now the aDAA –or adobo Design Awards Asia, as their partnership with UK’s D&AD was recently confirmed, co-presented by Bench.
The partnership means a bigger competition with more entries coming from the Southeast Asian region, more prestige (or bragging rights) for the 2016 winners if the 2016 jury is any indication, and the allure of a more tantalizing prize at stake.
Formerly known as British Design & Art Direction, D&AD is a British educational charity which exists to promote excellence in design and advertising. The group celebrates and nurtures outstanding work globally through the annual D&AD Awards held in London. Winning a D&AD Pencil is recognized the world over as a symbol of the very highest creative achievement and is coveted by even the most accomplished advertising and design professionals all over the world.
Angel Guerrero, CEO, publisher and editor-in-chief of adobo Magazine, announced: “I am proud that adobo was approached by D&AD to be their partner for Southeast Asia. D&AD and adobo magazine share common ground: celebrating creativity and promoting design education.” It is hoped that the alliance with D&AD in Asia through the adobo Design Awards 2016 in March will further elevate the already high standards of creative excellence in the Philippines and the rest of Asia.
The aDAA just announced that D&AD president Andy Sandoz is on board as jury president. Confirmed aDAA jury members include AJ Dimarucot, Dan Matutina, Melvin Mangada, Patrick Cabral and Leigh Reyes, with two judges being considered from the region as talks continue to complete the jury roster.
Janelle Barretto-Squires, adobo’s COO, proudly states: “For a much-coveted award, the standard is set by the caliber of the jury, and we have continued to put together only the most brilliant talents to critique the work, raising the bar of excellence in design and creativity in the country.”
Now with over 20 categories, the aDAA has an open category to local international professionals, freelancers, and students. It was only in recent years that international entries were accepted, raising the bar even higher. Deadline for submission of entries is February 27, 2016.
