MANILA– Twenty teams from the creative industry, media and brands went head-to-head on June 8, taking off the steam from their workplace to the pitch of McKinley Hill Stadium.
The 12th year of adobo Football cup proved it would take more than the scorching heat under the sun to stop a day full of camarederie, healthy competition and good old sportsmanship.
The seven-hour tournament resulted in the victory of Kapamilya United, making it the network’s third year streak in the games. Kapamilya United defeated Voyager-Paymaya FC team in a 3-2 shootout.
This is Kapamilya United’s second year after their sister team ABS-CBN FC took the gold in 2017. Winning seven ins, Michael Lopez of Kapamilya United was the top scorer of the night, bringing home the Best Striker Award.
Silver Winner Voyager-Paymaya FC’s Miguel Roy emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the Cup while Carl Mamawal of BBDO United won the Best Defender Award. Jay Eusebio of TBWA Yakalz won the title Best Midfielder.
Publicis One FC came close to playing in the Finals but went home with the Bronze Dobo with Team Captain Paolo Roa winning the“Gold Glove Goalie” Award for Best Goalkeeper.
McCann United’s Goalkeeper Mariane Caparros won the Best Female Player of the Year in honor of late Cathy Nazareno, one of the pioneer organizers of the adobo cup.
Caparros’ Team, McCann United, also won the Best in Team Spirit Award–their second streak for the moral support they exhibited for their teammates in the pitch.
Towards the afternoon, there was also an exhibition match between the non-profit organization Futbol sa Kalye and representatives from participating teams. Futbol sa Kalye and Field of Hope went home with a box full of pre-loved and brand new football gear donated by adobo magazine and various football teams.
Gatorade ensured everyone stayed hydrated throughout the tournament and medic partner Lifeline attended to several injuries sustained in the play. Venue partner McKinley Hill Stadium; event partner ArtisteSpace; Jollibee; Manulife; Heineken; Quaker Oats; Jamba Juice; JT’s Manukan; Mimi & Bros; and Sports One all made the 12th adobo Football Cup a healthy channel for fair play in the industry.
