MANILA, PHILIPPINES– SILVERLENS is delighted to present Ziggurat, an exhibition by Norberto Roldan.
Widely recognised for installation works that repurpose found objects, Roldan will be featuring nineteen such assemblages for his second solo show with the gallery.
The pieces Roldan displays in this exhibition were salvaged from the fire that ravaged Green Papaya, where he stored a majority of his oeuvre; the artist has also since constructed three new installations, which he will debut in this exhibition.
Roldan aka Peewee moved to Kamuning, Quezon City, in 2008, after relocating Green Papaya Art Projects. The building on the corner of Kamuning Road and T. Gener Street burned in a fire on June 3.
The second floor had housed Green Papaya’s archival material and the works of many artists. Much of the material was lost or damaged by fire and water. Among the salvage are six wooden assemblages in the series 100 Altars for Roberto Chabet.
Roldan had built the ziggurat structures with debris from houses, found objects, second-hand fabrics and old photographs from stores around Kamuning.
