Her painting “Journey” will be the centerpiece of her art show. Sal explains: “Starting from the bottom: Crucifix symbolizes leaving the past behind. The cathedral with kneeling saint represents prayers for guidance and hope, the arches are paths that without faith, we blindly choose, the flowers symbolize beauty and gratitude, the bull represents people I want to stay away from, the giant fish is for peace and contentment, the two boats are for traveling towards an unknown destination, the 4 figures represent my family, the figure on the left top corner is Jesus Christ aligned with the church on the top middle part. In all things in life, God is my guide and anchor that I look up to. This could be anyone’s journey through life.”

Apart from Journey, twelve other paintings will be showcased at the exhibit.  Visitors will get to see some of her abstract expressionist works like Blue, Ethereal, Cosmic, and Celestial, and the vivid display of color in Chasm, Comfort and Redemption among others.

Last April 2019, Agora Gallery New York selected Sal to exhibit her works in the highly prestigious Artexpo New York, which shapes trends in art galleries worldwide.  Sal’s entry into the Artexpo places her in a distinguished position, where she joins influential artists like Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Keith Haring, and Leroy Neiman, who have participated in the world’s largest art expo during its 41-year history.

Sal’s artworks are displayed in private collections in the Philippines, Germany, New York, California, and Spain. She is currently representing Agora Galley New York and Dragon Art in Marbella, Spain.

About Sal Ponce Enrile (Statement from the Exhibit Curator Ricky Francisco)

As a sickly child, Sal Ponce Enrile stayed mostly indoors and whiled away time sketching, drawing and painting; as the rambunctious games of her playmates and peers might trigger an asthma attack. Then life happened. The child grew up and god married, became a mother, and found herself managing a district as public servant, even finished two terms; that is, until she decided to go back to her calling – her art. From the time she resumed painting in 2017, there was no day that she has not painted. Her devotion and discipline would enable her to have both local and international exhibitions. Represented by Dragon Art in Marbella, Spain and by Agora Gallery in New York, USA; Ponce Enrile has exceeded even her own expectations. JOURNEY is her second solo exhibition  and her first with Art Cube gallery.

JOURNEY takes its title from the lone semi figurative symbolist work in the collection of thirteen paintings, which make up the show. The other twelve are abstract expressionist works with the titles which seemingly describe her art (such as Ethereal, Cosmic and Celestial); which she has had because of it (Stamina endure) or what her art has done for her (Comfort, Redemption). And these are apparent in the words that combine her luminous works, accented with wisps of gold, which seem to have a flashing rainbow play-of-color of opals. Because light plays on these iridescent hues, they become mesmerizing. The effect of the works on its viewers is instant. And they make a feeling surface from the viewer, much as a familiar into an old memory, or into a journey of self-discovery. On the other hand, the title piece, which is equally colorful, brings narrative to the fore. Symbolic imagery such as hands clasped in prayer, a garden, a patch, a fish , a church; are all strung on a path – Sal Ponce Enrile’s own life journey. But as these symbols are familiar, and as her colors are highly charged, this work, as all other works in this exhibition, evoke meaning from viewers and allow them to charge the works with their own memories and experiences. While the title piece seems to suggest a full journey of a life well lived, Sal Ponce Enrile’s journey as an artist is just at its start. Journey, the exhibit, augurs well for the prolific and disciplined artist whose public life is well established, and her inner life, equally rich and reflected on.
