MANILA – There’s a new person in charge of the Ad Standards Council (ASC). The council announced that Ms. Digna D. Santos is taking on the position of Executive Director of the ASC on a full-time basis, effective January 2016. She had already been serving as executive director in a temporary capacity since last August due to the medical leave of Ms. Mila Marquez.
“We are all elated that Digna joins the ASC in 2016 as Executive Director on a full-time basis,” said 2016 ASC Chairman Norman Agatep in a statement. “Digna is among the most hard-working and selfless people in the industry; she contributes plenty in whatever role she takes, and never ceases to ask: what else can we do to make things better.”
With a history that dates back to the Philippine Board of Advertising in 1974, the ASC is the advertising industry’s primary self-regulating body. It is a non-stock, non-profit organization which aims to promote truth in advertising through self-regulation of advertising content. It was established by the major stakeholders of the advertising industry – the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), representing the advertisers, the owners of advertising materials, the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies-Philippines (4As), representing the advertising agencies, the creators of advertisements, and the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), representing the media, the implementing communication channels of advertising.
Prior to her joining the ASC, Santos had been serving as executive director of PANA. Over the next six months, she will be working on her transition from that post to her new designation.
“Together with ASC Operations Manager Maya Estrada, Digna will surely set her sights on improving operations efficiency and safeguarding the integrity of self-regulation in the Philippines while generating heightened awareness for ASC amongst our various stakeholders,” Agatep added.
