The British are coming! Or did they leave at all? BBC.com’s traffic in Asia Pacific has significantly grown in monthly reach by 21% in Q2 2009 compared to the same period last year, according to latest figures delivered by ComScore. The number of visitors per month has risen to 8.4million in the region which is more than twice the size of its nearest competitor. BBC.com remains the largest international broadcast news website in Asia Pacific.
The latest figures also reflect great loyalty to BBC.com around the globe with 72% of audiences reportedly staying with BBC.com rather than visiting a competitor site. Competition includes CNBC, Financial Times, CNN.com, MSNBC.com, and the Economist.
Providing comprehensive news, sport, weather, business, technology and lifestyle content, the latest ComScore records show considerable peaks in traffic in Asia Pacific particularly during key world events, like the swine flu epidemic, and the recent Indian and Iranian elections. Results show audiences continually turning to the site as a source for reliable global and local news.
Luke Bradley-Jones, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for BBC.com commented, ‘It’s hugely encouraging to see our online presence in Asia Pacific expanding and the great loyalty towards our website around the globe. With international audiences becoming ever more thirsty for instant, reliable and trustworthy news, we are delighted that increasingly they recognize that BBC.com is the site to turn to.”
