MANILA – It’s the most awaited warehouse sale of every book lover out there–the annual National Bookstore (NBS) Great Warehouse Sale where hundreds of titles, from classics to contemporary are up for grabs for as low as P50.00 to P100.00 each.
As the warehouse sale opened today, a huge crowd of literary enthusiasts carrying baskets and boxes full of books were already swarming the fourth floor of NBS as early as 9:30 in the morning, only 30 minutes from the opening time.
Some of the titles we spotted while looking around the piles and piles of already disheveled books include Toxicology by Jessica Hagedorn, The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling (hardbound covers are sold for P100 each!), A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith, The Fame Game by Lauren Conrad, and Seriously… I’m Kidding by Ellen Degeneres.
And some more.
At around 10:30am, the organizers tried to control the crowd by stopping people from entering the warehouse to wait for the number of the current batch to subside, resulting to a cue that snaked inside the mall’s ground level up.
So, if you’re planning to go, make sure to come early to avoid the crowd and long lines, wear a breathable and comfortable outfit (which could by the way get dirty from some dusty books), bring tissues or towel to wipe off your sweat because despite the mall’s air-conditioning, the warehouse can get a bit hot as people come in. It would also be wise to bring along a friend, preferably someone who has no intentions to go around, who can stand in the cue for you.
The NBS Great Warehouse Sale is located at National Bookstore, Quezon Avenue cor. Sct. Borromeo and Panay Avenue and will run from August 13-18, 2015, 9am-8pm.
