NUEVA ECIJA, PHILIPPINES – Together with its key partners in ASUS Foundation, Fil-Chi Love and Care Foundation, and the Taiwan Digital Opportunity Center, ASUS Philippines recently marked yet another milestone in the brand’s commitment of bolstering its CSR campaign. This time, the search for the ‘incredible’ brought the ASUS Philippines team all the way to Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya, armed with a total of 80 ASUS laptops to be turned over to two schools.
“ASUS Philippines and our partners have never wavered in our commitment in championing education, computer literacy and skills advancement. But beyond providing the PCs these students and faculty will use to upgrade their teaching and learning processes, we also look towards the positive impact this will ultimately have within their entire community. That’s why for us, this is by no means a one-off activity… rather, it’s for sustainable development,” shares Francis Garcia, ASUS Philippines Consumer PC Product Marketing Manager and CSR Head.
Sto. Domingo National Trade School (SDNTS) in Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija is the province’s first and only vocational trade school. The academic institution currently caters to almost 2,000 students from Grade 7 to 12 enrolled in various vocational courses, with an overall student population of 3,350. With this sprawling headcount, also comes the need to modernize and upgrade the quality of education to ensure that all students are developed to their fullest potentials.
Speaking about the lack of innovative tools for educational advancement Dr. Cecile Ocsan, SDNTS Vocational School Administrator I shares, “In this digital transformation era, computer illiteracy is one of the biggest problems we must address. That is why these 50 ASUS laptops will definitely not only make our students keep up with the latest technology, but this will also make them more competitive. Our teachers and students will be motivated to challenge themselves to commit more for excellence, now that we have these ASUS Laptops on our side to better prepare our students for the real world.”
These 50 ASUS laptops will be primarily for the benefit of SDNTS’ grade 7 to 10 students who are currently taking up Internet and Computing Fundamentals (ICF), and Computer Science Studies (CSS).
The second beneficiary of ASUS Philippines’ recent CSR campign in Central Luzon is the Lamo Elementary School in Nueva Vizcaya – a humble school along Dupax Del Norte with an overall population of almost 200 students from kinder to grade 6. Though relatively smaller in size and in number, the school also gets much support from its alumni and other partners who are quite active in pushing for the school’s development.
In an interview with Ms. Dalita Galanta, Head Teacher III of Lamo Elementary School, she shares, “While these students are eager to learn, there are certain limitations that hindered them to comprehend the advancement of technology. Financially, it has also always been a challenge for them to have their own computers for their learning process. But now, these students will be able to both experience and maximize the use of technology with these ASUS laptops. We are more confident that Lamo Elementary School will be able to produce globally-competitive students!”
“One of the end goals of ASUS Philippines’ CSR activities is to lessen the digital divide, by supporting schools that have scarce resources. By providing these laptops, we are empowering students while improving their learning process, which we believe will impact their social and economic growth,” closes Francis Garcia.
