Manila, PHILIPPINES: June 12, 2019 — Coinciding with this year’s Independence Day, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has recently teamed up with Taxumo, a pioneering and multi-awarded online business registration and tax assistance platform, to free MSMEs from the woes of registering their businesses and the hassle of computation, filing, and payment of their business taxes. According to a report from the World Bank, the country’s ranking in terms of ease of doing business has dropped 11 notches, from 113 in 2018 to 124 in 2019.
In coordination with the DTI’s Negosyo Centers, Taxumo would help continue DTI’s active agenda of making business registration simpler and efficient for MSMEs and bringing them closer to digitalization, through Taxumo’s online platform solutions.
Currently, MSMEs make up for 99.56% of the total business establishments in the Philippines.
“Taxumo will be tapped as resource speakers by the DTI for tax-related activities geared towards self-employed professionals and MSMEs, to support our campaign in digitizing MSMEs,” announced Director Emma Asusano, Program Manager of the Negosyo Center Program Management Unit.
Through the partnership, Taxumo would lend its resources and expertise through workshops on basic taxation and related topics geared for self-employed professionals and MSMEs.
It would also offer exclusive and friendlier rates for both its business registration outsourcing service and its online tax filing platform, which currently serves over 12,000 existing freelancers and MSMEs in various parts of the Philippines.
Under the Go Negosyo Act (Republic Act 10644) first signed on July 15, 2014, DTI has taken the lead in improving the situation of MSMEs with the Act’s goal of strengthening and boosting the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), by providing the necessary support and programs for potential and existing MSMEs.
One of DTI’s major initiatives has been to establish Negosyo Centers in each city and municipality in the whole Philippines, to serve as the spaces of which to hold these training and support programs.
The partnership is a continuation of Taxumo’s support of the government agency, which began during their participation in Globe Telecom & DTI’s joint project, Globe My Business Academy: Create the Future of Local Businesses.
“We have always been in full support of the DTI’s endeavors to help propel MSMEs forward, which is why we are truly excited for this partnership,” says EJ Arboleda, CEO and Founder of Taxumo. “We believe this gives us yet another opportunity to fulfill our company’s mission, which is to promote inclusive economic growth, by enabling MSMEs grow their businesses with the help of our tax automation platform.”
