MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Liter of Light, a Filipino-born global grassroots solar lighting movement, has partnered with the country’s leading e-commerce platform, Lazada Philippines, for its Light It Forward campaign.

The partnership with Lazada will allow volunteers to purchase solar lighting kits through a special page on the Lazada platform, to assemble and donate to communities across the Philippines that need electricity.

“Lazada’s mission has always been geared towards nation-building. We aim to accelerate progress through commerce and technology,” says Lazada Philippines CEO Ray Alimurung. “We believe that electricity is an important resource for our community to stay connected during these times. Through Lazada’s partnership with Liter of Light, we hope to enable more Filipinos to have access to this basic need.”

“Our partnership with Lazada will allow us to reach a wider network of potential volunteers,” said Liter of Light Founder Illac Diaz.” The LIGHT IT FORWARD challenge, which was born as a digital campaign, has found the ideal partner in helping us to fulfill our mission to empower off-grid communities across the country.”

The Light It Forward store is live on the Lazada platform, just in time for Lazada’s highly anticipated 11.11 Shopping Festival.

About the Light It Forward Campaign:

Uniting artists, the media, businesses, and service groups to change the world from home, “LIGHT IT FORWARD” is a platform to pay tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of essential workers and front liners who are protecting the public during this unprecedented time.

By volunteering just 20 minutes of their time, “LIGHT IT FORWARD” gives Filipinos a new way to honor the front liners who are risking their lives to protect the public from the COVID-19 scourge. Inspired by the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, LIGHT IT FORWARD invites ordinary people to do extraordinary things even in the midst of a global health crisis, by building solar lights to support communities without convenient access to electricity.

As of today, LIGHT IT FORWARD has seen the support of over 200 celebrities, influencers, and artists with an estimated total fan base of 30 million supporters.

Participants of the LIGHT IT FORWARD campaign will receive a solar light kit, which takes less than 30 minutes to assemble. Online videos have also been created by Liter of Light to guide participants on how to assemble the devices. As the campaign gains traction, participants of the challenge have been asked to dedicate their assembled solar light to an essential worker or front-line worker that has inspired them during the COVID-19 pandemic. After recording the process of assembling the solar light kit, each participant is encouraged to pass along the community challenge to their friends.

The campaign is part of a broader strategy for Liter of Light, the official Philippine private sector representative to the upcoming World EXPO, which will take place in Dubai from October 2021 to March 2022. The organization will use its platform to shine a light on how Filipino malasakit is paving a way for a brighter future in a tangible and measurable way.
