MANILA, PHILIPPINES – 10.10 is one of the biggest sale seasons of the year where everyone is raring to go for some retail therapy. Coincidentally, October 10 is also World Mental Health Awareness Day. Here, Propel Manila saw the opportunity to celebrate this meaningful day this 2021 with their partner global mental health and well-being organization, MindNation by redefining “therapy” in retail therapy.
In a country where around 6 million citizens are estimated to be living with depression and anxiety, it is unfortunate that the stigma surrounding mental illness and getting help is still at large. As many still struggle with it alone, MindNation and Propel Manila sought to find ways to normalize the conversation on therapy and mental health, while also making it approachable knowing therapy is usually seen as expensive. So on 10.10—a day when everyone has their credit cards ready to check out all those items they’ve hoarded in their carts—they are launching a way for everyone to truly treat themselves to something more long term.
Together with Propel Manila, MindNation launched the 10.10 Real Retail Therapy Sale where they put up therapy sessions and bundles up for grabs for as low as Php1,010 per session (from the usual P2,500 per session). People could purchase “products” such as Deep Sleep ©, which is a single session with a psychologist to help identify behaviors, manage thoughts, feelings, and emotions that interfere with a healthy night’s sleep; or bundles such as the Self-Love Pack ©, which includes 3 sessions with a psychologist to help one set boundaries, live intentionally, and have better relationships with the ones who matter. These sale goods bring out the real feeling of “therapy” in retail therapy!
This is a meaningful way to get people to truly treat themselves or even their loved ones. Through the 10.10 Real Retail Therapy Sale, MindNation and Propel Manila aims to raise awareness on the importance of investing in one’s mental health and to get people to talk about it more openly.
“Part of our advocacy is normalizing conversations about mental health and breaking down the stigma around seeking professional help,” says MindNation co-founder and CEO Kana Takahashi. “We hope that our 10.10 Real Retail Therapy promo breaks down barriers and makes people regard therapy as nothing to be ashamed of.”
“Mental health is quite close to the heart of our agency. And we’re very happy to partner with MindNation in helping normalize therapy and promote well-being during these times. This is just the start of many stigma-breaking collaborations,” says Propel Manila Partner and Creative Chief Raymund Sison.
