MANILA, PHILIPPINES – GRID Magazine has launched its newest issue, GRID Vol. 09: One Day in the Philippines, on July 11. The release marks the first time the indie travel magazine has released an issue exclusively for purchase online.

Entitled “One Day in the Philippines”, this issue tells a diverse range of stories from around the Philippines that take place within the span of 24 hours. Produced in partnership with Eastern Communications, one of the premier telecommunications companies in the country, the stories in GRID Vol. 09 revolve around a sense of community, both digitally and on the ground.

Featured in the issue are the archaeologists leading public excavations in Quezon, the Filipina preparing to join the world’s most ambitious horse race, and the farmers in Benguet utilizing social media to connect to consumers, among others.

“This issue was a first for us in many ways,” said GRID Editor-in-Chief Nina Unlay. “We’ve always been a print magazine first, but our priority was to have these stories told. Even if the concept of travel right now isn’t the way we used to know it, travel was always meant to connect people. And more than ever, connection is something the Philippines needs.”

“Eastern Communications believes that human connection transcends more than physical, and what more is the best way to connect people than real life stories and experiences. More than that, this partnership with GRID has enabled us to help children of AHA Learning Center to continue their education amidst the pandemic,” said Eastern Communications Head of Marketing Jedrek Estanislao.

Fifty percent of the sales from this issue will go to the AHA Learning Center, a non-profit organization that runs free after-school programs for public school students. Due to the challenges presented by Covid-19, AHA launched a home-school program on Facebook that now reaches thousands of Filipino students.
