MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Sun Life Philippines (Sun Life), through its philanthropic arm Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation), has increased support for frontline organizations addressing the most pressing needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Answering urgent calls to provide fast-dwindling medical supplies amid the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the country, Sun Life Foundation donated medical supplies through ABS-CBN Foundation’s Ligtas Pilipinas Campaign for the protection of frontline teams in various hospitals in Metro Manila. A total of 8,000 disposable personal protective equipment, over 7,000 ND95 masks, thermal scanners, and disinfectants will likewise be turned over to various hospitals nationwide, such as Philippine General Hospital, while oxygen therapy software was donated to Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
Apart from these, Life Armor insurance coverage will also be given to over 3,000 frontline team members such as doctors, nurses, security personnel, maintenance staff, and other workers who are involved in the COVID-19 response efforts and are registered members of Lazada Philippines. Among the hospitals included in this initiative are Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Leyte Provincial Hospital, and Philippine Heart Center.
Sun Life Foundation also teamed up with other members of the business community for Project Ugnayan to help provide sustenance for 1.5 million families through the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation, donating Php 15 million to the initiative.
Meanwhile, working with Hybrid Solar Solutions, Inc., Sun Life Foundation helped solarized a total of 90 checkpoints for the safety and comfort of the frontline teams manning or crossing the borders.
“Our goal is to provide support for those helping in the battle against COVID-19 while also catering to those whose livelihood has been affected by the current situation,” said Sun Life Philippines CEO & Country Head Chairman Benedict Sison, who also chairs the Sun Life Foundation.
Moreover, according to Sison, Sun Life employees and advisors have likewise been contributing to various fundraising efforts that address needs related to COVID-19.
