MANILA – These days, it sometimes seems like anyone can shoot and star in their own videos. The popularity of websites such as YouTube and Vimeo have allowed people from around the world to shoot, edit, star in, upload, and share any kind of video with an equally global audience.
Now imagine creating a video and actually getting recognized for your efforts. The adobo Design Awards Asia (aDAA) 2016 are providing a venue for professionals, freelancers, students or just plain hobbyists to show off their skills in creating videos.
Now on its seventh year, the adobo Design Awards Asia aims to champion the best designs while recognizing the talents behind the work. Now with over 20 categories, design is an essential element for one’s entry to be recognized. This year’s aDAA also marks a partnership with D&AD, a UK-based charity organization that gives out the world’s most coveted design trophy.
There are two special awards in this year’s Open Category that will be given out for video entries under different mechanics.
Power Mac Center presents the award for Digital Short Film, looking for video entries using raw video footages shot entirely with any iOS device. Final output should be between 5-10 minutes long and will look at the most creatively crafted entries.
Another video category will be presented by Brand New Media, which will recognize entries in the music video, audio video, and animated video format. As opposed to the digital short film format, these entries may be shot using any video recording device, using animation technology, and other post-editing tools. Final output may be between 1-4 minutes long and should focus on the art of storytelling.
For both special awards, entries must conform to the Open Category brief: Designing for a Bold New World.
More than ever, design is being used to create solutions to the world’s problems as it continues to shift and evolve. The jury will look for entries with designs that are as bold as the world they are trying to change. Ideas that are not only different, but push the limits of creativity in order to achieve positive results.
There are other special awards that will be handed out in the Open Category. These include an award for Mobile App Design for Social Good presented by Globe Telecoms and an award for T-Shirt Design presented by Bench.
The boom in creating, viewing, and sharing videos and short films has made unlikely celebrities out of many people over the past few years for their work both in front of and behind the camera. If you have a vision and a creative way of executing that vision through good storytelling and craft, and work within the given parameters, submitting an entry for the adobo Design Awards Asia 2016 could be your chance to be recognized as well.
