MANILA – It’s probably the only photo contest that asked its participants to submit crappy entries but at least it’s for a good cause.
From the agency behind ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’ and ‘Visit Philippines 2015’ comes ‘Visit Philippines Again 2016’. BBDO Guerrero and the Department of Tourism asked tourists to come and visit the country again this year by giving away free trips.
To get a chance to win a trip back to the Philippines, foreign tourists were asked to submit their picture imperfect photos or ‘Photo Fails’ in any of the country’s tourist destination by posting them on social media using the hashtag #visitthephilippinesagain2016. The prize for the winning entry was a return ticket to re-shoot that photo.
In February, three winners from Belgium, Japan and Finland were chosen from thousands of entries received.

“This social media campaign was our way to heighten up the excitement for big events lined up for the Philippines this year. 2016 is the year of ‘again’ and ‘Visit the Philippines Again’ will once more highlight the country as a multi-level experience destination filled with exciting activities and endless new discoveries, shared with their warm and fun-loving hosts, the Filipino people,” said Tourism Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr.
‘Photo Fails’ recently won the Grand Kidlat Award for being the winningest campaign at the Kidlat Awards 2016, the annual Philippine competition showcasing local creativity.
“It’s very witty in utilizing bad photos to sell the country. It had scale, it had a lot of user participation. It just speaks so well of creativity that it was able to utilize something and make it work for a product, in this case, the country,” shared Raoul Panes, Jury President, Kidlat Awards 2016.
The campaign was also one of the three PHL entries that won a Bronze Interactive Lotus at the ADFEST 2016 in Pattaya, Thailand.
