Globe Telecom’s play hub of galactic proportions last weekend was the talk of the town.
Kicking off with a grand media event on December 11, featuring a laser-and-hologram show, a parade of Storm Troopers, Biker Scouts, and Clone Troopers, as well as impressive light saber battles that drew gasps and impressed cuss words (which we’ll leave to your vivid imagination), Globe Telecom celebrated the countdown to Episode 7: The Force Awakens at the Bonifacio High Street ampitheater.
From December 12 to 13, Star Wars fans of all ages encountered treats galore at the country’s biggest play hub devoted to the movie franchise, from merchandise that could be readily bought on site from Filbar’s, Havaianas, Folded and Hung, Toys R’ Us and Hobbes and Landes. Lucky gamers experienced the Battlepod, which simulated various encounters between Rebel and Imperial forces–or tinkered around with the Sphero BB8 droid, showing how the movie’s famous practical effect works in real life. Enthusiasts posted on social media their kids’ encounters with First Order troopers, playing on the obstacle course to prove their worthiness as possible Jedi (or Sith) padawans.
Enticing fans and curious onlookers with the various games that rewarded intrepid players with cool swag, and shows that pitted lightsaber-wielding Siths against Jedis from the Philippine Light Saber Guild, as well as a parade of friendly troopers and characters from the 501st PH Garrison, it certainly lived up to the hashtag #fillyourgalaxywithwonder.
Speaking at the media event last Friday, Globe Senior Advisor for Consumer Business Dan Horan, dressed as usual in his Han Solo outfit, shared: “This is our way of bringing the Star Wars experience outside the cinema to get all fans of the movie franchise excited about the release of the latest Star Wars movie. The Galactic Celebration will be a wonderful bonding activity not only for fans but for the entire family as well with all the games, interactive activities and booths, photo-worthy installations, exciting prizes and treats, and retail collectibles.”
In addition to the fan activities geared for the public, the telco also treated some public school kids to a museum tour and read-along at the Mind Museum. Horan commented: “Through these efforts, Globe is able to engage student beneficiaries and enable them to have an unforgettable Star Wars experience, while increasing their appreciation and understanding of science and technology, ensuring that the entire Star Wars experience is enjoyed by the greater majority.” Special screenings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in different cities across the country will also give more underprivileged kids the chance to watch the movie.
So whether you’re aligned with the Dark Jedis or are secretly a closet Light Sith (yes, the hassle of hiding such things from your master or apprentice can be a chore!), you can be sure that Globe has aligned with the Force this season–and the results can only be good for Star Wars fans.
