The Super Bowl 2012 ads round up

GLOBAL, February 7, 2012: As the 46th Super Bowl concluded last February 5, advertisers got to showcase more of their finest TV ads. Here’s a brief review on what went down during those 30-60 seconds commercial breaks.
 
In the digital age, social media plays a big factor in boosting popularity. H&M’s ad featuring footballer David Beckham was reported by AdAge to have topped their list of most commented ad in social media garnering a total of 108, 914 comments while Chrysler’s “It’s halftime in America” featuring Clint Eastwood came in second with 95,682.comments.

 

 
 
Also, Honda’s ad titled “Matthew’s Day Off" by RPA, Santa Monica, California topped  Visible Measures’ list of most number of web views with a total of 18.4 million while Volkswagen’s “The Dog Strikes Back” by Deutsch Los Angeles comes in at second with a total of 17.4 million views as of Monday morning. Acura’s “Transactions” by RP& Santa Monica sits at third (15.7 million), Doritos’ “Crash the Super Bowl”  is at fourth (6.3 million), and Audi’s Twilight spoof “Vampire Party” by Venables, Bell & Partners, San Francisco is at fifth (5.3 million).

The Super Bowl ads were flooded with prominent personalities such as actors, athletes, supermodels, a business mogul, and singers. Victoria Secret supermodel Adriana Lima stars in two commercials namely in Kia’s “A Dream Car. For Real Life” by David & Goliath, Los Angeles and in Teleflora’s "Give and Receive" Fire Station Agency. Former football star Deion Sanders made appearance in Century 21’s “Smarter. Bolder. Faster” by Red Tettemer & Partners, Philadelphia and Bridgestone’s “Performance Football.”
 
Pepsi insists its connection with music by hiring Elton John, The X Factor winner Melanie Amaro and Rapper Flavor Flav in Pepsi’s "King’s Court" by TBWA/ Chiat/Day, Los Angeles.
 

 

 

 

 
Aside from celebrities, furry creatures such as dogs (Bud Light’s "Rescue Dog" by McGarry Bowen) and Polar bears (Coca-Cola by Wieden & Kennedy, Portland Oregon) were also a hit in Super Bowl commercials. Doritos’ “Missing Cat” also drew viewers in.
 
Google listed Acura’s  "Transactions" by RP&, Santa Monica California, Godaddy’s in-house "Is this Heaven?" ad, and M&M’s Just my Shell" by BBDO New York as the most popular commercial in terms of searches. Also, game day searches for super bowl ads were 122 times higher than the same time in the past week. Google also recorded that searches for The Avengers trailer and Chrysler’s ad as trending. 
 
As for the ads that mostly did not receive nods, both Hufftington Post and Fox Sports recorded Godaddy.com’s ad as one of the worst Super Bowl commercials. New York Times’ Stuart Elliot regarded Godaddy’s ad as women’s exploitation in the guise of  empowerment.
