Entertainment & Media: The First Filipino-Made Anime Returns to Philippine TV this Weekend and Launches Original Soundtrack

Philippine television’s first Filipino anime series Barangay 143 is finally back on air every Sunday on GMA after its three-month season break.

The series, produced by Synergy 88 Entertainment Media (Philippines), August Media Holdings (Singapore) and TV Asahi (Japan), kicked off its return with the pilot telecast of the “Balik Barangay” special episodes that recounted important highlights from episode 1-8 and showed for the first time exclusive interviews from its directors and production team.

The show also premiered the official music video of “Dito sa Barangay 143,” the theme song of the anime series performed by top Filipino rap artist Gloc 9 featuring Maya.

The show’s official hashtag #BalikBarangay143 trended on Twitter nationwide as fans expressed excitement over the much awaited TV comeback.

“Barangay 143” is definitely on its way to expanding the brand as it recently launched  official soundtrack that features the Philippine’s top music artists namely Gloc 9, Nina, Kris Lawrence, Top Suzara, Krizza Neri, Jin Ho Bae, Alyssa Quijano, Harlem Ty, and Willie Revillame. The soundtrack features nine original tracks composed by top Filipino composers.

“Barangay 143” made history as the first Filipino-made anime to air on Philippine television. It tells the story of Bren Park, a young and rising Basketball star in Korea who turns his back to everything that is important to him after a major event changes his life forever. The search for answers leads Bren to Manila where he goes to live with his former nanny Tita Baby (Lorna), in the gritty neighborhood of Barangay 143 in Tondo, Manila.

Since its pilot telecast in October, it has been consistently winning in urban homes nationwide. Its online community also continues to grow as more and more viewers get hooked with the program.

“Barangay 143” features the voices of some of the most sought after Filipino actors Migo Adecer, Julie Anne San Jose, Ruru Madrid, Kelley Day, John Arcilla, Lorna Tolentino, Alice Dixson, Teresa Loyzaga, Jaime Fabregas, Pen Medina, Paolo Contis, Archie Alemania, Jerald Napoles Antonio Aquitana, Kimpoy Feliciano, Benjie Paras, Alyana Asistio, Ping Medina, Roadfil Macasero, Xandra Rocha, Majoy Baron, Gio Alvarez, Nar Cabico, Raver Eda, Gary Lim, and the Kramer family consist of Cheska, Doug, Kendra, and Scarlet.
