In line with its initiative to lead the Philippines’ digital transformation into a smart nation through the development of innovative applications, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is once again inviting students from tertiary schools nationwide to join the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Innovation and Excellence Awards.

Now on its 16th run, this year’s competition carries the theme #DrivenByData: Data Analytics In Action. Smart is looking for innovative solutions where data analytics is applied to help address real-life problems.

Considered as the “modern oil” of different industries, data analytics involves the collection and processing of data to aid decision-makers in creating businesses, minimizing costs, improving service and productivity, and boosting revenues.

With a maximum of five members, team composition is highly suggested to represent various disciplines of Engineering, IT, Business, and Marketing, as the entry should have a supporting business plan.

The winning team of the 16th SWEEP Awards will get P300,000. The second and third placers will receive P200,000 and P100,000, respectively. Smart will provide merit awards for all finalists who enter the Top 10.

To join, teams need to prepare a video pitch and upload it at www.smartsweep.ph. The full mechanics can also be found on this site, which will accept video submissions until January 10, 2020 only.

The top 20 shortlisted teams will be gathered for a 2-day boot camp with mentors and subject matter experts on March 2020. From this shortlist, 10 of the best data analytics innovations will be part of the final judging and awarding on May 2020.

The SWEEP Awards was launched in 2004 to provide college students with the platform to develop innovative applications that solve consumer pain points. The annual event is a component of SWEEP, an internationally-recognized program under which Smart partners with the academe to raise the standards of engineering and IT education in the country.
