MANILA, Philippines — To strengthen the camaraderie within the advertising community, adobo magazine is mounting its first ever Esports cup kicking off on August 6 live from the adobo Esports channel.

In lieu of the annual adobo Football cup, the Esports cup was set in motion to test the grit and grime of advertising agencies in their new arena: Mobile Legends, all while practicing the safety precautions placed upon by the authorities.

Co-presented by Globe and streaming production partner, Gariath Concepts, the adobo Esports Season 1: Mobile Legends Mythical Bowl will place sixteen agencies head-to-head in a round-robin tournament that will commence on the Grand Finals on September 1.

The teams will be divided into four groups and will compete on August 6, 11, 13, and 18 from 7:00 pm onwards with two matches each night. These will be available for everyone on Facebook live and will be commentated by shoutcasters TDZ, Midnight, Nomad PH, Leo, and Uomi.

Winners from the four nights will move up into the two-part quarterfinals on August 20 and 25. Subsequently, the four who will emerge will have their semifinals on August 27 and the final face-off will be on September 1.

Angel Guerrero, President and Editor-in-Chief of adobo magazine, said, “We created this tournament to connect the ad community online and have them meet-up, compete, have fun, and win some prizes. We are taking the agencies’ competitive spirit online, and shifting the pitches from the board room or zoom room to a game of Mobile Legends — a way to relieve the hardworking-from-home agency people and hopefully, spark joy.”

The emerging champion will take home Php 60,000 and will represent the country in Singtel’s PVP Esports Corporate Championship in Singapore. Other teams that will make it into the finals will receive the following prizes:

“The esports industry is making impressive strides in the recent years and we are beyond thrilled to be a part of the first inter-agency competition in the country through the adobo Esports,” commented DC Dominguez, Head of Globe Games and Esports. “This is definitely a step in the right direction given our thrust to not just grow Philippine esports but recreate and reinvent how these games are played across different sectors.”

“Advertising is a team sport, and that’s also what we love above these games. We get to enjoy them with the people we’ve spent time with — through presentations, pitches, OTs, productions. We know how to be competitive, and we know how to have fun while doing so. The battlefields may be quite different, but the overall feeling is more or less the same. That sense of unity, working hard and working together towards a common goal and emerging victorious—there’s no greater high than that, both in advertising and esports,” said adobo Esports Commissioner Javey Villones (th3jav3y), Creative Director of Wunderman Thompson Philippines.

Staying true to the traditional on-field games, the adobo Esports will not only award the champions but will also name the League MVP, Best Marksman, Best Mage, Best Assassin, Best Fighter, Best Support, Best Logo, and Best Tank as well.

adobo Esports 2020 will also serve as the Philippine Qualifier for the PVP Esports Championship, the regional esports league hosted by Globe partner, Singtel.

The adobo Esports Season 1: Mobile Legends Mythical Bowl is co-presented by Globe, powered by Asus Republic of Gamers, and supported by E-Project.
