MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In a bid to raise awareness for the environment, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines launched a live stream fundraising concert series entitled #Conservatunes on May 23-29, headlined by OPM artists Hazel Faith, Bea Lorenzo, Janine Teñoso, and Yzay of Banna Harbera.
The first leg, which ran during Biodiversity Week, raised funds to provide sustainable water sources for WWF-PH’s partner communities in Boca Engaño, Masbate and Donsol, Sorsogon.
As the only barangay in Claveria, Masbate which does not have its own water system, residents of Boca Engaño rely on only one of the four deep well water sources for drinking water in the community. Because of the seasonal drought brought by the summer and the water shortages, a sustainable water source is a critical need for the community’s 420 families.
The same problem is faced by the coastal community of Donsol, Sorsogon; globally-recognized to host one of the largest aggregations of whale sharks on the planet.
Hazel Faith, who kicked-off the online concert series, encouraged her followers to donate by sharing how small acts of kindness can help make a difference in the lives of the residents of these coastal communities.
“The more I listen to them [WWF-PH] talk about what these people were going through—no light source at night, no potable water. They can’t even wash their hands; they can’t protect themselves from the virus. I can’t help but think [that] I need to do my part, I need to help somehow, as small as it may be, I have to try. And you can, too. If you have more than you need, please consider donating. What we think may be small acts of kindness and selflessness can make a big difference to someone’s life. You are the variable that can make that difference.”
The second wave of #Conservatunes will run on June 4-9 and will feature performances by Filipino acts Lance Busa, Haraya Choir, Gab of KE, and The CompanY.
