SHANGHAI – Maria Taniguchi clinches art grant and bests 5 other nominees for this year’s prestigious prize in Shanghai’s Rockbund Art Museum.
Honoring emerging contemporary artists in the region, the biannual Hugo Boss Arts Award was recently bestowed upon Filipino artist Maria Taniguchi. After being announced as one in six finalists for the prize at a group exhibition at Shanghai’s Rockbund Museum, Taniguchi was finally awarded the JPY 300,000 stipend or grant. Candidates were shortlisted according to the innovation demonstrated in their practice. Part of the arts programme will involve activities in the finalists’ home cities up until mid-2016, with a publication documenting the contents of the programs.
Taniguchi is the second awardee to date, the previous one being Kwan Sheung Chi of Hong Kong in 2013.
