Young hotshop DM9 JaymeSyfu, an affiliate of DDB, made Philippines proud by getting the most in, at four—two in the Radio Lions (Vandol “Siren” and Pro Life “Regret”); one in the Media Lions (Gabriella “Duct Tape” campaign), and one in the Outdoor Lions (Tinactin “Fish” poster)!

All of BBDO Guerrero’s three shortlisted ads were< height="291" align="right" width="213" alt="" src=" NU107 guitar. JWT’s entry was Shell “Are We There Yet” radio spot (which had already won a Clio) while Campaigns & Grey’s sole finalist was Pantene Shampoo “Hold” outdoor ad.

As predicted by adobo magazine, the Philippines did better in Radio, with four out of its 11 shortlisted ads in this competition. (Check out the adobo audio gallery for the radio spots.)

Leigh Reyes, executive creative director of Y&R Philippines and Cannes Lions Radio jurist, said in the Cannes Lions Daily News interview, “Radio is not dying in fact, it’s trying very hard to revive itself. That said, I haven’t seen as much evidence as I’d hope of that revival—but we are only at the halfway point. There are examples of radio being integrated into broader campaigns, but if you’re having to read an explanation of a campaign to understand it, then in my mind it hasn’t worked.”

Those for the Film, Titanium and Integrated, Cyber, and Design Lions are yet to be released. Over 25,660 entries from all over the world are entered into the Cannes Lions international advertising festival, the world’s largest and most prestigious.

The 2008 Festival welcomed 9,500 registered delegates from 85 countries including 26 from the Philippines, who are here in the sunny beachside town in Cannes France to celebrate global advertising creativity. With Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Pepito Olarte and Rene Reinoso represented here as the country’s Cannes Lions Festival representatives. Leigh Reyes of Y&R Philippines is the sole Cannes Lions Radio jury member this year. Team Philippines Young Creatives from J. Romero & Associates, Gigay Quipanes and JB Bangoy are competing in the Young Lions competition.
