McDonald’s launches ‘Favorites Under 400′ in time for Olympics; brings back Twister Fries in PH

GLOBAL – AUGUST 3, 2012: McDonald’s may be the biggest sponsor of the London 2012 Olympic Games but critcs say the fastfood chain shouldn’t be backing an event that features the fittest, most health-conscious humans alive.
These concerns were heard as McDonald’s kicked off a promotion that focuses on “favorites under 400 calories”.
The chain plans to make nutritional information front in center in stores, highlighting options such as 15-calorie apple slices, 280-calorie chicken McNuggets, and 340-calorie Oreo McFlurries so that they’re more noticeable to customers in stores and drive-throughs.
The hope is to “help customers understand how their choices fit within their daily recommended calorie needs, particularly with portion sizing and eating in moderation,” said Cindy Goody, senior director of nutrition for McDonald’s USA, in an interview with LA Times.
However, the Philippines won’t be seeing the Favorites Under 400 menu just yet. Margot Torres, McDonald’s Philippines’ vice president for marketing, said, “In the Philippines, our menu strategy focus is taste and food quality. Like other initiatives, we evaluate best practices from developed markets, determine its relevance to our market, and adopt it at the right time.”

Meanwhile, McDonald’s famous “Twister Fries” is back in the Philippines and trended locally on Twitter as netizens tweeted and posted photos of famous deep-fried potato curls. Twister Fries has been available since August 2 and will be in all McDonald’s branches nationwide for the next three weeks only.
McDonald’s Philippines only sells twister fries for a limited run each year, increasing the product’s value.
