Globe enters multi-year collaboration with Disney SEA

MANILA – It seems that Globe Telecom wished upon a star and got exactly what it wanted. 

In a landmark deal Thursday, Globe has started a multi-year partnership to become the official partner of The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia in the Philippines.

The deal is extensive, giving Globe access to video-on-demand, interactive content, dedicated apps and responsibilities for promotions on mobile and broadband. Rob Gilby, Managing Director for The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia, said that Globe subscribers can expect a launch of a new product every month for the next six months

In turn, the entertainment conglomerate will have a potential audience base of over 45 million Globe users, giving its brands that include Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Maker Studios, unmatched reach online.

The press, most accompanied by their kids during the launch held at Green Sun, Makati, were treated to a sneak peek of the upcoming TVC for the Globe-Disney partnership. adobo confirmed that the spot was created by McCann and will be launched on May 17 nationwide.

So far, Globe and Walt Disney has announced 7 projects scheduled to be launched within the year:

  • Disney Movies On Demand (DMOD): an on-demand subscription service for selected evergreen Disney and Pixar titles such as the Toy Story franchise, Finding Nemo, The Princess Diaries, Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmas, Cinderella and much more, that can be viewed on any device anytime, anywhere
  • Disney On Demand (DOD): an on-demand subscription service for selected Disney TV favorites such as Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Phineas & Ferb, that can be watched on any device anytime, anywhere
  • Maker On Demand: an on-demand subscription service featuring the best short-form videos from Maker Studios’ portfolio of content across gaming, comedy, music, sports, fashion, and family, to name a few, featuring popular talent from Makers’ network of 55,000 creators globally 
  • Maker and Globe will also team to create custom branded entertainment featuring top digital influencers—supporting the Globe service
  • WATCH Disney Channel apps – entertainment apps which provide access to Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD. Kids and Family can enjoy all the 3 Disney Channels via this digital destination.
  • Disney Interactive: a world of mobile and web-based games, apps and e-books based on the best-loved Disney stories
  • Promotions, merchandising and retail activations that bring Disney’s latest theatrical releases closer to Filipinos

Asked on why partner with Globe, Gilby said to adobo: “They one of the most innovative product creators paired with a 45 million user base. But more importantly, they experiment with new services, introducing new smartphones and offer high data sleeps that creates great experiences for fans. 

Disney is another feather on Globe’s ever expanding cap of iconic partners. Since 2013, the company has teamed up with brands like Facebook, Viber, Whatsapp, Google, Spotify, NBA and Hooq.

Such massive partnerships are already paying off, with Globe mobile browsing and other data revenues reaching P14.3 billion in 2014, up 23% from P11.6 billion in the previous year. This translates to a 64% revenue market share.  

The Globe network also carried significantly higher data traffic at 87,000 terabytes of data, increasing 270% from the previous year because of a significant surge in mobile browsing activity and higher smartphone adoption among its customers.
