MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In a world of competitive professional and career-building, how do you put yourself ahead of other candidates? Sweet talking your way through an interview may work for some, but it’s not a foolproof way to get a job, or even land a proper interview.
“The real challenge is catching the eye of the recruiter,” said Reggie Fernandes, the Country Head of Workbank said this during a workshop exclusive for their candidates. “Filipino talents have so much potential and we want to help them translate this into resumes that are worth a second look.”
The workshop also touched on the basics of graphic design, giving them a leg up from other candidates by providing them with spatial familiarization.
“We are partnering with Canva Philippines to hold workshops for job seekers,” Fernandes added. Such partnerships indirectly increase the chance of Workbank candidates to secure jobs by making them more competent, and enriching their individual skill set.
As each person’s creativity manifests in different ways, Workbank partners with companies that bring out each job hunters’ strengths. More workshops become accessible as job hunters progress on their profile.
Much like Canva’s drag-and-drop interface, Workbank makes the hiring process less complicated both for candidates and companies. For companies, individuals they will hire have taken the necessary steps of self-improvement; and for individuals, their opportunities grow stronger as they add more aces to their suit.
Other perks come in the form a-hundred-peso off on Grab when going to a job interview; a Zalora discount to make oneself look presentable; and a 10 percent off on Wendy’s to keep the job hunter’s pocket in check.
One of the lessons imparted during the workshop was also the importance of being oneself. Chances are, headhunters would have screened enough people to differentiate those who can put their words into action. Confidence in one’s abilities and knowing one’s limits is one of the best ways to establish trust between the job hunter and the company.
When asked why Workbank went to tread on a new path to approach career-building, Fernandes said that it was a model that is sustainable for all stakeholders: companies, job hunters, and even for them as the third party matchmaker: “Filipino workers have the drive to success and we would like to encourage them to take advantage of these training opportunities that can give them an edge among their peers.”
