< width="288" height="193" align="left" src=" band. " alt="" /> Last July, five brave new bands from Ace/Saatchi &Saatchi, BBDO Guerrero Ortega, DDB Manila, JimenezBasic and Y&R Philippines took the stage in the 1st Band Congress: Battle of the Ad Agency Bands.
With a staging worthy of Lollapalooza, Band Congress was brought to fore by Unitel Productions. The event was held at On Stage, Greenbelt, and was a certified crowd-pleaser as the audience (groupies?) cheered, clapped and howled their support for fellow agency mates—much to the delight of all.
Bands were tasked to perform two songs; a cover version of their choice, and the official competition piece arranged and interpreted according to their chosen musical genre. As the judges deliberated, guest bands the Chilitees, the Itchyworms and local rock legend The Dawn strutted their stuff.
In the end, the pop-tinged JimenezBasic’s Betsy and the Value Meals took the top prize, barely edging out BBDO Guerrero’s Stomp-like performance and DDB’s hard rocking (and aptly named) Dog Dog Band.
