MANILA – Two prominent names in Philippine advertising have been named as jurors in this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity. Leigh Reyes, president and Chief Creative Officer for MullenLowe Philippines will serve on the jury for Outdoor while Teeny Gonzales, CEO and Executive Creative Director for Seven AD will be on the jury for Radio.

“Needless to say I’m ecstatic about it,” Gonzales shared. “I consider it a milestone that someone from an independent agency is selected as a Cannes juror. I’m truly proud to be representing both the country and all independent agencies in this event. So wish me well! I know it’s going to be hard work but I hope to learn a lot from the experience.

For her part, Reyes noted that, “This is my second tour of jury duty in Cannes, and I’m looking forward to seeing the world’s most amazing work in Outdoor. Cannes remains the lightning rod for all things creative, and I never fail to come away both challenged and inspired.”

In addition, a Young Creatives Competition organized by the Creative Guild of the Philippines saw the Tribal DDB pair of Andi Olbes and Nikki Sunga earning tickets to the festival for the Design Competition. For the Print Competition, a duo from Dentsu JaymeSyfu, namely Cathy Poblete and Francesca Veneracion, were given the honor.

For 2016, the Philippine Daily Inquirer and Nestlé Philippines launched a search for a student who would represent the Philippines at the Roger Hatchuel Academy. The Roger Hatchuel Academy is a five-day course that trains 35 international students studying advertising, communications, and other creative disciplines. Though the Inquirer has been recommending students for this course since 2012, this is the first time that the newspaper and Nestlé Philippines joined forces for an advocacy.

This will also be part of Nestlé’s United for Healthier Kids (U4HK) advocacy program which seeks to draw together various sectors of society to work with parents in increasing awareness about the prevalence of child malnutrition, as well as promoting a proper diet for children. This distinct honor was won by Mary Dorothy Jarantilla, a student from De La Salle University.

Jarantilla emerged as winner after first creating a video and essay outlining passion for advertising and integrated marketing communications. After being shortlisted to ten, these were interviewed by executives of the Inquirer and Nestlé, and being further cut down to three. The final choice of Mary Dorothy Jarantilla was made by representatives from Cannes. As part of her win, she earns an all-expense paid trip to Cannes, attend the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival, as well as the five Award Ceremonies and the Young Lions Party.
