MANILA — From its location down to its interiors, where employees work has a direct influence on their performance. Workplaces change to suit a company’s nature of work and more contemporary creations such as murals replace traditional framed paintings and is now referred to as “office art.” They are usually found in communal lounges and executive rooms to spark some inspiration and boast of their culture.

With a youthful and dedicated workforce behind its platform and brand, OLX Philippines decided that their office art should mirror the passion of its employees and the continuously growing communities they help foster online. With this idea in mind, they then tasked Honeycomb Communities, a marketing design company and one of its emerging local artists, Egg Fiasco, to bring their initial thoughts to life.

Known for their outdoor murals around Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and their participation in outdoor mural festival in ArtBGC, Honeycomb Communities knew they could capture what OLX Philippines is. “We knew the work should be identifiably Egg Fiasco’s,” explains Kayo Cosio, Chief Strategist of Honeycomb Communities. “But it’s also important that the employees can really connect with it and be inspired by it.”

The result is a mural titled “Pull,” painted on a big common room wall inside the OLX Philippines office. It’s mural full of Pinoy and OLX transaction and milestone elements with a firm handshake in the middle.

Egg Fiasco is a neo-graffiti artist whose designs look futuristic and edgy. Some of his murals can been seen in walls around Metro Manila, including in Bonifacio Global City as part of ArtBGC. The challenge of painting the passion behind the OLX brand and its community highly appealed to him, which resulted in “Pull,” painted inside a wall in the OLX Philippines office.

“The work I did with OLX is outside of what I usually do, but we managed to make a very Filipino mural for a great Filipino company but in my style of art,” says Egg Fiasco. “During the process, we met with different members of the OLX team and tried to emerge not just their ideas but also their company culture, attitude, and demeanor, and that’s what we really wanted to come out in the mural.”

The end image also embodies the kind of support system OLX has built for consumers through the different online communities it enables. “When we shake hands, it’s not just an agreement, but it’s also a sign of friendship. We’re making each other better by working together—pulling each other up,” says Egg Fiasco. “You’ll also see all the other milestones of how OLX has pulled us up over the course of the last 10 years.”

With a passionate workforce and online communities within its platform, Egg Fiasco was able to visualize this through a contemporary mural that highly represents OLX’s brand direction, too. “We saw how passionate Egg Fiasco is with his craft and gave him free hand to paint what he saw within the OLX culture,” says Carlo Rosales, Brand Supervisor for OLX.

“We’re glad he saw that we also share the same kind of passion within our brand and platform. The mural is also a constant reminder to our employees—to continue doing what we’ve done over the last decade in helping Filipinos have win-win transactions through our platform.”

Be it painting a mural, starting an online buy and sell business, or sharing your passions with your chosen peers, there will often be challenges. Take it from Egg Fiasco who always trusts the process with his art. “Doing my work in this big scale is very challenging. It requires a lot of time, and just as much effort mentally, emotionally, and physically. So to pull it off? It’s a very satisfying feeling.”
