" />Despite an overwhelming workload and hectic client meeting schedule, Marci Reyes, executive creative director of Tequila, danced his way to the finals of the advertising edition of TV game show “Game KNB?” Then he returned as a two-time champion and left the TV studio richer by Php120,000.
To top it off, he did the AdBoard a huge favor, he donated all of his prize money for the implementation of its organizational programs.
In an impressive feat for someone who had to shuttle to and from ABS-CBN, Marci came up with all the right answers at the right time, each time.
He was the only seasoned ad man to make it to the next round. Apparently, the agency twenty-somethings were too smart—or too quick for their older competitors, as their reflexes enabled them to reach the “light sensors” first. In the end, Marci showed that his 20-year experience gave him the winning edge. (The younger players, especially
Dar Barba, showed some apprehension in taking on Marci, perhaps afraid that a future job applicationmay never advance, or to borrow the game show terminology, “hindi aabante.”) Or maybe, his showbizzy family background allowed him to be more comfortable in front of the cameras? Jose Javier Reyes and Mark Reyes, accomplished film directors, are his uncle and brother after all.
On Day 2, Marci beat his two challengers by remembering more Jack Nicholson blockbusters effortlessly. Unfortunately, his second chance at a million was not realized.  His winning streak ended on Day 3 when he faced professional basketball players from the PBA. Being athletes, it wasn’t surprising that they knew more about the category: MVPs who made it to the NBA finals.
Among the contenders who gamely performed the Papaya Dance were Lilit Reyes, executive creative director of blackpencil; Tanke Tankeko, executive creative director of Creative Juice; Diday Alcudia, strategic planning director at DM9 JaymeSyfu; Dar Barba, writer at Harrison Communications; Francis Chua, account director at McCann Erickson; Carl Clemente, writer at BBDO Guerrero Ortega; Mike Garcia, account director at O&M; Rio Jorolan, writer at McCann Worldgroup; and Patrick Michado, writer at BBDO GO.
“Game Ka Na Ba?” is a highly rated gameshow on ABS-CBN that was initially inspired by the UK game show “The Weakest Link.” It is hosted by Edu Manzano.
