MANILA – Raymond Arrastia, Chief Executive Officer of Publicis One Philippines announced the retirement of Matec Villanueva as Chairman and CEO of Publicis Manila, effective August 1, 2016.

Matec has played a vital leadership and strategic role in shaping Publicis Manila for the past 10 years, and has led a strong team responsible for the continued growth of the agency. She has mentored dozens of people in the industry at all levels in the course of her long career. In addition to being dedicated to managing the affairs of the agency and helping grow the business of its clients, Matec has provided valuable time to serving, in various management capacities, the 4A’s, AdBoard, and Ad Summit Pilipinas.

“It is with mixed emotions that we announce Matec’s retirement. On behalf of Publicis One, we would like to thank her for her significant contribution to the growth of the Publicis business and reputation in the Philippines. We wish her the best in her new adventure.” Arrastia said.

In an interview with adobo magazine back in 2013, Matec noted that advertising was, “the best accident that happened in my life.” A business major in college, an advertising career was not immediately on her radar, but a series of happy accidents led her to the industry and she grew to love it. She also shared that the secret to her longevity in the industry was partnering with the right people, including longtime creative partner Marlon Rivera. Rivera also left the industry over a year ago to pursue his own personal creative endeavors, resulting in Alistair Wood joining Publicis as chief creative officer.

In a separate interview with adobo, the avid golfer also shared how she works out six days a week, teaches at the Ateneo de Manila John Gokongwei School of Management, and relishes time spent with her sons.

Culminating 22 years of service to the Publicis Network which began at the then Basic Advertising as Account Manager, Matec said: “I thank everyone, my client-partners, especially Nestle, my management team, and staff of Publicis Manila whose confidence and support translated into an awesome 10-year stint. Everything we have built together is a testimony to our passion for great work. I am truly blessed to have been part of a multi-talented team that delivers breakthrough creative solutions and marketing communications.”
