MANILA – “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” These now immortal words have been associated with the science fiction saga known as Star Wars since the first film was released in 1977. That first film spawned six other subsequent movies, as well as becoming a cultural phenomenon. Springing from the mind of George Lucas, Star Wars resonated with so many people despite being set on other planets and featuring creatures and characters not necessarily human in form.

In the 39 years since Episode IV: A New Hope first captured the imagination of millions, fans have looked for different ways to celebrate their love for the saga. Strangely enough, one particular day has become a holiday of sorts for those same fans. Originally a joking reference to the Jedi phrase “May the Force be with you,” May the 4th has become “Star Wars Day,” allowing fans of all ages and sizes to display their Star Wars love in even louder ways than usual.

You don’t need a lightsaber to celebrate Star Wars Day.

Thus it came to pass that on May 4, 2016, Uniqlo Philippines made a big splash in the hearts of Star Wars geeks with a launch in its Megamall branch. A brand new line of Star Wars shirts in several sizes, designs, and colors was introduced to the public, but Uniqlo took it a step further. The retail giant reached out to accredited Star Wars groups in the Philippine Garrison of the 501st Legion and Fightsabers Philippines and made May 4 an even more fan-friendly experience.

Even this pirate is loving the new Star Wars shirt designs.

People who dropped by the Megamall branch of Uniqlo could have their pictures taken with several cosplayers from both the 501st Legion and Fightsabers Philippines while also having access to the new Star Wars merchandise. On top of that, Uniqlo also offered a P5,000 shopping spree to the person who came in the best Star Wars costume on Star Wars Day. That honor went to a young girl dressed as new fan favorite Rey from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

So, whether you’re a Jedi or a Sith, whether you’re a Stormtrooper serving the Empire or part of the Rebellion, there’s a staggering amount of cool designs as far as Star Wars shirts from Uniqlo Philippines for you. Whether it is May 4 or any day of the year, it’s never out of fashion to say, “May the Force be with you.”
