MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Last January, when media company Condé Nast first announced the Philippine edition of Vogue, both experts and enthusiasts of all things fashion, culture, lifestyle, and more in the Philippines were thrilled. Now, the wait is over, and Vogue Philippines makes its first mark in the country with an issue celebrating the depth and richness of Filipino creativity.

For the maiden issue, Chloe Magno graces the cover in an abaca silk dress by renowned Filipino designer Rajo Laurel. It’s a glimpse into the first Vogue Philippines cover story, an exploration of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao that presents fashion and beauty through the lens of the Philippines’ beauty and culture. The story is more than just a shoot, it’s a voyage around the country through which Chloe, a Filipino-American model, and British Filipino-Egyptian photographer Sharif Hamza reconnect with their motherland and pay tribute to it.
“The shoot was an experience like no other. Our team of Filipino creative talent bonded instantly to become a family. I’m truly honored and grateful to have worked with everyone involved,” Sharif said.
The cover story is a fitting way to introduce what Vogue Philippines is all about — showcasing Filipino fashion and beauty without losing sight of how these things are rooted in the community and rich cultures that shape them.
Bea Valdes, who was named editor-in-chief earlier this year, said, “My vision for Vogue Philippines is to lead the industry with purpose, leaning into our Filipino values of optimism, bayanihan [the spirit of helping others], and empathy through our stories. We celebrate craft and creativity, empowering our community and urging our Filipino culture forward.”
To celebrate the launch of the Philippine edition, Vogue launched a glamorous welcome party attended by beauty queens, photographers, models, influences, and other celebrities and personalities at the XYLO at The Palace last August 28, 2022.
The event was hosted by model and television personality Joey Mead King, who donned a Rajo Laurel piece as she gave a grand entrance and welcomed Vogue Philippines with a bang to kick off the party.
Vogue Philippines’ maiden issue will be on sale starting August 31.
