Panda-style Kung Fu, dragon flying, and movie making at DreamPlay

MANILA – Integrated casino resort developer Melco Crown Philippines and DreamWorks Animation  have collaborated to develop the world’s first DreamWorks-inspired “edutainment” center at City of Dreams Manila.

“From Shrek to Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, fans worldwide have embraced our brands and helped insert them into the fabric of popular culture. These franchises are at the heart of DreamPlay, which delves into a rich library of content and stories to deliver a truly amazing visitor experience,” Paul Kurzawa, Head of Retail Development & Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation said at a press launch on May 22.

The education-based, interactive entertainment concept, “DreamPlay by DreamWorks”, is set to open later in 2014, at City of Dreams Manila, a leisure, gaming and entertainment destination resort currently under development at Entertainment City in Manila.

Inspired by the mantra of learning through play, DreamPlay features experiences that are designed by the artistic and creative forces of DreamWorks Animation and iP2 Entertainment, combining the best elements of the DreamWorks library with the hands-on activities of an education-inspired play-center. “We are consistently looking for new ways to bring our characters and stories to fans around the world,” said Kurzawa.

“DreamPlay” blends integrated live and digital play spaces, featuring DreamWorks’ popular characters and creative storytelling combined with innovative educational play, appealing to children and adults alike. “Kids will be able to learn Kung Fu with Po, receive dragon flying lessons, learn how to create their own animated feature, and maybe even save a princess,” he said.

Kurzawa explained that as the current franchise evolves and new franchises develop over time, DreamPlay will also evolve. “Thanks to the modular fashion of dream play design, the various elements can be reimagined over time, paving the way for new and enriching visitor experiences,” he said.

In January 2014, City of Dreams Manila introduced Hollywood-celebrity trendsetting Nobu brand, marking the first Nobu Hotel in Asia. The addition DreamPlay brings City of Dreams Manila closer to realizing its overall vision to deliver world-class and diverse innovative lifestyle and entertainment offerings, as well as to support the Philippine government’s strategy to broaden the appeal of the Philippines as a leading leisure destination in Asia.

“DreamPlay by DreamWorks will deliver an education experience through spontaneous and sensory play that represents and industry world- first. We believe it is truly a unique way for children to experience, learn, and interact with the DreamWorks families of much-loved characters,” said Clarence Chung, Chairman and President, Melco Crown (Philippines) Resorts Corporation.
