MANILA – In a move to address the jobs mismatch that continues to plague the Philippines, the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have launched FutureYou.ph, an online career exploration portal.

FutureYou allows users access to complete and relevant labor market and higher education information.

The portal will show which jobs are in demand and which courses or programs can lead to those jobs. It provides basic information on schools including degree programs, performance on licensure exams, and information on different industry careers.

It will also include a blog that provides career advice.

Citing statistics from the International Labor Organization, a press release from PBEd said that the Philippines has the highest unemployment rate in Southeast Asia, and one of the reasons behind it being the mismatch in current placement of graduates and industry job requirements.

“There is an oversupply of talent—there are industries that offer jobs but have no applicants, and vice versa,” PBEd said.

FutureYou, according to the press release, is a tool that partly addresses the job mismatch.

“FutureYou.ph aims to help millions of young Filipinos make better decisions about their future,” PBEd said.

The website will be publicly launched on September 23 at the University of Makati. It will be accompanied by a career advocacy event called “Life Lessons” where professionals from various industries will give insight about their chosen careers.
