The country recorded a drop of 24% for online job postings in the Advertising, Market Research, Public Relations, Media and Entertainment sector which continued in October with – 22%.

The biggest decline for the sector was recorded last November with a 46% drop compared to the same period 2014. In comparison, Singapore and Malaysia only had a 4% and 13% drop in November year-on-year.

The downtrend continue with marketing and communication jobs. The Philippines posted a 45% drop in online job posting, a notable leap from -25% and -18% in October and September, respectively.

Malaysia is the only market where marketing and communications roles have experienced positive growth year-over-year for September 2015, albeit at just 1%.

“Malaysia is again the only market recorded via the Monster Employment Index that has somewhat positive news for the marketing industry, as there has been no change in online hiring activity between November 2014 and November 2015 – although the industry overall is still in decline when it comes to e-recruitment,” said Sanjay Modi, MD of Monster.com for India, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.

“While anecdotally there is a lot of activity within the marketing space in this region – especially with a few big moves of CMOs and other senior marketing roles, and the upward mobility of niche talent in digital and e-commerce job functions – overall, employers remain cautious about hiring in this space,” he added.
