MANILA – Offering free entrance to the public, with well-curated content representing the arts and crafts from several indigenous groups in the Philippines, graphic novels, artworks from reputable galleries, and handicrafts or food items from the “one town, one product” DTI initiative—the SikatPinoy art and fashion fair promises to be a treasure trove for design mavens, bargain hunters, and shoppers of every stripe.
Showcasing about 130 art and fashion entrepreneurs, this celebration of the arts also features performances and workshops that will surely engage guests.
The weekend fair ends Sunday, August 18, but various performances and activities have been planned for the entertainment and delight of visitors. Film showings, musical/dance numbers, cultural lectures or discussions, performance art, and a painting workshop are among the program highlights.
Stand-out booths at the fair include those by Tin-Aw Gallery, Art Lab, and Silverlens—and booths featuring artisanal work like mats from Sulu, woven materials from Abra or Zamboanga, or intricate beaded slippers from Pateros. A pop-up cafe featuring civet coffee (a steal at Php50 a cup) offers a convenient place for visitors to rest in the middle of all the action near the stage.
Curated by Albert Avellana, of Avellana Art Gallery, the fair is an opportunity for canny buyers to get their Christmas shopping done early and patronize Pinoy ingenuity. It’s also a great way for entrepreneurs from various parts of the country to network with each other and learn how they can improve their products or expand their market presence.
