BANGKOK – Go Motion Productions’ Anya Zulueta will be debuting her short film at the upcoming ADFEST, alongside three other new directors from among the region who were selected to be part of the festival’s Fabulous Four directors.
It isn’t the first time the 21-year old filmmaker’s work has made it to the big screen. A graduate of De La Salle College of St. Benilde, Zulueta’s thesis film was screened at various film festivals including the 2014 Manhattan International Film Fest.
She recently directed her favorite local band’s music video, which is now screening on MTV Philippines. For Zulueta, being a filmmaker means creating worlds and characters and trying to make them matter. Perhaps biased, she feels there could be no better job in the world.
Every year, ADFEST invites new directors and assistant directors to write a five-minute short film script inspired by the festival’s theme, which this year is “Be Bad!” The 2015 Fabulous Four directors now have just weeks to cast, direct, shoot and edit their film scripts in time for their premiere at ADFEST on March 21 at 11.30 a.m.
From over 30 script submissions, four directors wrote scripts that won the most votes from the Film Craft Lotus and New Director Lotus Jury. Along with Zulueta, T&E Inc.’s Hiroki Odagiri from Fukuoka, Film Farm India’s Pranav Harihar Sharma from Mumbai, and TYO Camp KAZ’s Tomoya Kuge from Tokyo complete the Fabulous Four.
Their short films will premiere at ADFEST 2015 in a session moderated by Michael Hilliard, executive producer at Finch in Sydney, who is Jury President of this year’s Film Craft Lotus and New Director Lotus Jury.
“There were some great film ideas entered into Fab Four this year – even at script stage I got a very clear sense of where the filmmakers will take the projects visually. We were flooded with scripts from all over, so we have productions happening in many different regions. We will have a great range of style, tone and character – I can’t wait to see the films realized,” said Hilliard.
“Being part of Fab Four helped my career enormously. I had to make my first film, and everything was a learning experience. I produced as well as wrote and directed, so I got a small overview of how the industry works. I met some fantastic collaborators and we continue to work together today. Being part of Fab Four is definitely something I am very proud of,” said Adam Graveley, an art director and director based in Perth, Australia, who was a Fabulous Four director in 2014.
