MANILA – To celebrate the National Month of Philippine Literature, Publicis JimenezBasic turned its landline into a medium where callers got treated to Filipino poetry while they’re on hold.

A wonderful surprise to clients, friends, and suppliers that broke the idleness of waiting on the other line, listening to the usual answering machine or network music.

Filipino poets from LIRA (Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo) lent their poems, time, talent, and heart to the project, including National Artist for Literature, Rio Alma. Every day, the phone played different poems about waiting while waiting.

“We saw an opportunity to make use of the answering machine as a venue for Poem Calls, where people can hear poetry, specifically Filipino poems,” says copywriter Jofer Mijares. “If you ask poets, they will tell you that poems aren’t just meant to be read, but spoken and heard.”

Associate Creative Director Lucas Luchico added,  “We see design everywhere but it’s not everyday you get to hear poetry. One call at a time, we hope Poem Calls can cater Filipino poetry to a larger audience.“

Full versions of the poems can be found on Youtube and Facebook complete with interviews of poets and insights about themselves and about their work.

On Friday, May 8, Poem Calls will culminate with a poetry and art night at Revolver Studios featuring the poems in the project and their art works as interpreted by PJB Creatives.

Call 8560729 or reach us on Facebook for a different kind of literary celebration while on hold – with poems that will make one hold on for more.
