Director Marnie Manicad, on the other hand, explained that a filmmaker needs to have focus or forte because this is where they will start making business. “I think what sets me apart from other directors is that I have a sense of nationalism,” she noted, adding that no one can be a jack of all trades.

Giving wedding videography a new angle, Notion and Motion and Bong Sarre of Threelogy gave tips on how to capture candid moments in weddings and how to create a story out of these, making special moments even more special.

Film Pabrika’s Carlo Directo, who was an art director in an advertising agency before becoming a TV commercial director, encouraged the audience to never stop chasing an opportunity. “I am enjoying art direction but I want to explore the other side of the game, which is directing,” said Directo, stressing that one has to be sensitive when an opportunity arrives.

He may not have liked creating animation when he started out, but comic book artist Arnold Arre inspired young animators with his talk on the do’s and don’ts in making animation movements. From observing people, he shared that “movements (in animation) depend on the character and the story.” Most of his works started out as simple drawings until he started working on the spots, which eventually became stories.

Talking about finding your creative soulmates and the science of filmmaking for social media, director RA Rivera and actor/filmmaker Ramon Bautista shared the stage in reminiscing how they started their career only with fascination. Instead of following the rules of filmmaking, they normally break them, as Rivera noted, but it was finding the right people to work with that made them successful in their fields. Bautista, on the other hand, shared that timing and relevance is very important to penetrate social media.

Co-presented by Canon Philippines, Fast Forward is an annual conference designed to motivate and push video production as a craft. The posters for sale, which were exhibited and signed by speakers, were created by Publicis JimenezBasic’s JP Cuison.
