“We saw the growth of the social enterprise sector, a key player in the national development of our country. We want to see these social enterprises further grow and become big players in the business sector,” said Antonio Yap, Chairman of the BCY Foundation.

Launched in 2014, the first DSE Awards’ winner was the Iligan-based social enterprise called Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits, Inc. (ECOWEB). Also a recipient of numerous awards from their region, ECOWEB produces natural fertilizers and pest repellents using natural farming system technology. Serving as raw material is local biological waste sourced from different communities where they are also working on different projects like livelihood programs and peace-building advocacies.

The DSE Awards is looking for social enterprises (corporation, partnership or individual) in the Philippines that have operated for at least two years. Nomination and application can be done through its website, www.dseawards.com. A screening committee, composed of judges from different sectors (e.g., academe, social enterprise network group, government, private business and media), will select the finalists and top winner. The awarding ceremony will be held in July 2016.
