MANILA – Following Wicked, West Side Story and Sound of Music, another award-winning musical is happening at The Theatre at Solaire–Sister Act, the re-creation of the music and general story of the 1992 film featuring Whoopi Goldberg.
Produced by Ovation Productions, tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look–a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and an uptight Mother Superior. Using her fabulous disco vibe and killer voice to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church, but in doing so, blows her cover. Soon it’s nun-on-the-run time but Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship.
Sister Act is premiering in Manila on June 27 and will run until July 7 as part of production’s Australian in Asian tours this 2017. Itfeatures the original music and score by 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Little Shop of Horrors) with lyrics by Tony and Academy Award-nominee Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid), with a vast inspiration of musical styles from Motown, soul and funk to great big disco anthems and Barry White inspired musical comedy.
