MANILA – As the football frenzy rises to fever pitch, Spotify has launched Spotify Loves Football, a new microsite inspired and dedicated to celebrating this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The site features interviews and playlists from stars of the tournament and artists alike, as well as articles exploring the history of the beautiful game and its enduring relationship with music.
Spotify also shares with fans selections of tracks from stars of the tournament such as Wayne Rooney, whose playlist includes Ed Sheeran, Lupe Fiasco and Béyonce, while his former boss Sir Alex Ferguson discusses his passion for music. Other footballers such as Kaká and Juan Mata have also shared playlists, and visitors to Spotify Loves Football will also be able to discover the music that inspires Brazilian talisman Neymar.
Spotify Loves Football also offers a chance for celebrity fans to show their support through music.
Avicii, whose global smash Wake Me Up was recently revealed to be the most streamed track on Spotify, has contributed a playlist featuring the likes of the White Stripes, Blur and Elvis Presley, as have Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs and many more.
Jennifer Lopez, who has recorded the official FIFA World Cup song We Are the One (Ole Ola) alongside Pitbull, has also shared a playlist on Spotify Loves Football which includes uplifting tracks from the likes of Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding and Pharrell Williams. She is joined by Shakira, who shares her own playlist alongside her memories of performing live at two World Cup ceremonies. Shakira said, “Over the past decade I have been fortunate enough to perform at two World Cups, both unique and unforgettable experiences.”
In addition to player and celebrity interviews and playlists, visitors to Spotify Loves Football will be able to enjoy a range of articles looking into the history of the World Cup. These range from pieces on stadium anthems old and new to a guide to the musical heritage of the 12 Brazilian cities to host matches during the tournament. There will also be a guide on how to throw the best World Cup viewing party as well as a closer look at the underdogs of the tournament.
Spotify Loves Football also features playlists from FIFA, including the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 official playlist and a number of additional playlists celebrating the musical culture of the host nation.
One of many engaging fan features is the Playlists Cup, where fans are able to suggest music that best represents their country, with the resulting playlists then pitted against one another – the playlist with the most followers takes home the glory. There are also a number of ‘Moments Playlists’, full of the tracks, which perfectly capture moments such as ‘Losers’ Party’, ‘The Goal’ and ‘We Won’.
Fans can follow @Spotify_PH for updates and join the conversation using the #SpotifyLovesFootball hashtag. The site is live now and for the duration of the FIFA World Cup at spotifylovesfootball.com.
