MANILA – Mother’s Day is already long past, but this teary online spot from Downy Philippines reminds us that we should seize every chance to thank them and feel loved before its too late.
Directed by none other than Brillante Mendoza, who won Best Director at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival in 2009, the two-minute spot shows how a simple dress helped a teen girl reunite with her departed mother once more.
The imagery is simple, but the soundtrack and cinematography remarkably sends such a moving message within a fairly short spot. Also commendable was how unobtrusive the product placement is. Considering that most Filipino moms do laundry and use Downy, using scent as a trigger for the teen’s recollection worked and, most importantly, was sensitive enough.
