MANILA – The biggest and longest-running book event in the Philippines has opened today at the SMX Convention Centre, Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
For an entrance fee of P20.00, P15.00 for students and senior citizens, you will have access to huge collections of books, magazines, toys and school supplies from various bookstores and publishers in the country.
Two bookstore giants Fully Booked and National Bookstore are offering 20% off on all books, including bestsellers, and bigger discounts on other selected titles.
Local publisher Adarna House is also offering discounted storybooks for children at P60.00 each. You will find here award-winning children’s books by Filipino authors. For comic book fans, graphic novels by local authors and illustrators are also available at Komiket and Visprint’s booth.
Other Philippine works are available at Tahanang Pinoy, UP Press, UST Publishing House and Ateneo University Press among others.
Book signings, launches and talks are also happening simultaneously so you better check the schedule.
Unlike the recent National Bookstore Warehouse Sale, the opening day of the 36th Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) was surprisingly peaceful, the hall was not cramped with people. More importantly, there are rows and rows of cashiers that cater to paying customers, preventing the long and crazy lines.
Fortunately, the venue is properly ventilated so all you need to do is make sure that your footwear is made for walking. Also, for your own convenience (and for the sake of the environment), bring eco bags to put your book purchases in instead of asking to put them in a plastic bag.
MIBF 2015 will run from September 16 to 20, 2015.
Happy hoarding!
