The Tourism Board of the Philippines (TPB) will hold the 13th Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX 2014) on September 2 to 5 at the SMX Convention Center with the theme: “Innovate & Integrate, Empower & Engage.”

This annual promotional activity of TPB aims to strengthen the country’s brand image and encourage local participants to promote affordable and competitive Philippine tourism packages to foreign tourism buyers.

“The Philippine tourism industry is one of the main local drivers in setting the mark for the ASEAN integration inclination, with 2015 just around the corner, PHITEX 2014 fortifies the country’s progressive perspective in accommodating the demands of the region, and of the world, ultimately,” said Domingo Ramon Enerio III, chief operating officer of TPB.

PHITEX 2014 expects over 209 foreign buyers, 130  local travel companies and 200 local travel delegates to attend this year’s Travel Exchange (TRAVEX), among them are representatives from airlines, hotels and resorts, tour operators, and travel organizers.

“PHITEX 2014 is just not about business-to-business selling. Foreign buyers are treated to post-event tours that truly showcase the diverse tourism options in the Philippines,” added Enerio III.

The post-event tours include trips to Laoag/Vigan, Tagaytay/Puerta Galera,  Puerta Princesa, El Nido, Legazpi/Sorsogon, Boracay, and Bohol/Cebu, incorporating  social tourism activities in tree planting, building of houses, coral transplant and mangrove protection, among others.

“This year’s post-event tours will be quite different from the previous years as we have designed tours for ‘travelling with a purpose,’ where tourists  can also  immerse themselves in eco-friendly activities that promote sustainability,”  explained  Tess H. Mauricio,  OIC Marketing and Promotions of TPB and PHITEX Project Director.

For local sellers, there will be educational seminars on the current status of local and international market trends to help these tourism businesses adapt their strategies and products and promote globally competitiveness.
