Two versions of the D&AD Annual, containing the best creative work of the year, will be published in the next few months. Scheduled for general sale in early 2010, the D&AD Annual will be published for the first time, by TASCHEN.
Members will receive a limited edition book from D&AD starting September 22, when it launches at the London Design Festival. To receive a free copy of the 2009 limited edition book, join D&AD before December 31, 2009.
The Annual showcases 748 entries selected by juries made up of the world’s leading experts in advertising & design. This year’s work comes from 38 countries and includes 54 Yellow Pencil and 4 Black Pencil winners, entries awarded for setting new standards in creativity.
The D&AD Annual 2009 Members’ edition was created through a unique collaboration between Peter Saville and Luke Sanders, a graduate designer. The design process throws light on D&AD’s education mission through a series of graphic statistics.
D&AD’s new partnership with TASCHEN promotes the best creative work to the widest audience. Designed by Jeremy Leslie, the book will be published in hardback and will be translated into six languages and distributed worldwide.
D&AD President Garrick Hamm said, “My first love of ideas came from stumbling across the 1985 D&ad Annual in my Somerset College library. I decorated the walls of my flat with Peter Saville’s work from posters to cassette covers. His artwork has always been with me and led to my first love of graphic design. It was an honour and a thrill to ask Peter to get involved with this D&AD Annual, which I am sure will be a collector’s item,” he added.
“I started the year saying I wanted to see The Annual back in bookshops, and it’s such a pleasure to end my Presidency knowing the book will be arriving on shelves soon,” Hamm added.
The D&AD is a non-profit organization representing the international design, advertising and creative communities. The Organization sets industry standards, educates and inspires the next generation and promotes the importance of creativity, innovation and ideas within the business community.
