MANILA – Type Lab Mnl is the first-ever type-conference in the Philippines featuring the most prominent creative talents in the fields of type-illustration, lettering and calligraphy. The two-day event is set to happen on July 4-5, 2015 at Century City Mall’s Roof Deck Events Center.

Type Lab Mnl celebrates the science and art of letters, magnifying the beauty of handwritten works, digitally created pieces, as well innovations in letter design. The conference aims to inspire, offer insights and encourages the exchange of knowledge by providing a creative playground for type enthusiast and professionals.

This one-of-a-kind conference is the brainchild of Abbey Sy and Type Kita’s Maan Agsalud. A collaborative effort that wishes to engage with the fast-growing type community and to inspire people in pursuing their own passions when it comes to lettering and typography.

The 2-day event boasts of an impressive line up of speakers, specializing in different lettering styles and techniques.

Abbey Sy is a letterer, adventurer and moment collector. Passionate about all things creative, she is a lover of books, music, and travel. With an arsenal of pens, watercolors and an ever-trustee notebook, Abbey chronicles her daily musings by scribbling and drawing her adventures.

Fozzy Castro-Dayrit is the creative force behind TheFozzyBook. A mother of 2, wife & cheerleader to an ultra-marathoner, certified bacon-lover, hoarder, paper-addict, calligrapher. A year after getting married, she sailed away from advertising life and escaped into what was once a pastime of calligraphy and designing paperie.

Jelvin Base may just be 22 but his technique is that of a seasoned letterer. Brush lettering, calligraphy, and typography serve as his hobby but his main focus right now is brush lettering.

Tippy Go is ½ of the dynamic husband and wife duo behind Googly Gooeys, working as a freelance layout artist, cartoonist, photographer and lifestyle blogger. When she’s not busy writing about their daily misadventures, this leftie shares her love for color by holding watercolor workshops.

Patrick Cabral is a Manila-based designer whose passion includes web-design, motion-graphics, game design/development, illustration and typography. Patrick’s talent has also caught the attention of international art communities, having collaborations with Jessica Walsh of Sagmeister and Walsh on the hit social experiment phenomenon Forty Days of Dating.

John Ed De Vera has always been a tinkerer, expressing his creativity through a variety of media. From filling his notebooks with countless letterings to painting in public spaces, doing gothic-type paper cutting to interactive MaKey-MaKey circuit boards, or experimenting with paper money folding and even 3D wooden letters, John Ed always finds new ways to push his craft and innovate his work.

Between painting, illustration and lettering, June Digan creates the most delicate and whimsical watercolor pieces with her 365-day project. What started out as a simple “daily therapeutic” activity snowballed into a massive design undertaking, garnering countless features in some of the most distinguished design blogs, and generating thousands of followers from around the globe.

Kay Aranzanso is a Manila-based illustrator and designer dabbling in graphic design, illustration, murals and hands-on chalk lettering projects. This creative lass also lends her design know-how by working with creative firms such as And A Half Design Studio and Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan.

As if that’s not enough, the event also promises to be a definite treat to every type-lover out there! With pop-up shops catering to all your hoarding needs with local sellers such as The Craft Central, Sunday Paper, Filed, Ella Lama, Pluma, Swirls & Strokes.

Aside from their must-have paper goods, Printcafe will also set up an authentic vintage letterpress for an old school printing demo for the attendees! In between talks, letterers are welcome to doodle and scribble away in a special pen-meet area with writing goodies courtesy of Zig and Stabilo! And for more type-inspiration, there will also be an indoor type exhibit to showcase works and creations of the local type community.
